Pott was founded on the core concept that you only need one Pott that you can continue to refill again and again.
We want you to be able to get the most out of your candle so we have put together our top candle care tips.
Before each burn, trim your wick to 5mm above the wax's surface.
You may notice a 'mushroom' developing on the wick - it will be obvious when it happens! This can occur for various reasons. If you spot one, always trim it off before lighting your candle again.
Wick trimmers are ideal, but sharp scissors and (clean!) nail clippers can also work well.
The Full Melt Pool
The Golden Rule: For the best results and to prevent 'tunnelling' (see below), you must allow the candle to burn until a full melt pool is achieved. This means the liquid wax must reach all the way to the edges of your Pott.
Typical Duration: Achieving this full melt pool typically takes 3 to 4 hours for a standard Pott refill.
Burn Time Limits
Maximum Burn: We recommend limiting each burn to a maximum of four hours. Burning for too long could cause your Pott to become too hot and (in rare cases) cause cracking.
Preventing Tunneling: Shorter burns (e.g., less than one hour) do not allow the melt pool to reach the edges. The wax then forms a 'memory ring,' causing the candle to burn a deep hole down the middle, leaving a significant amount of unused wax on the sides of the Pott - this is known as 'tunnelling.
If your candle melt pool does not reach the edges on your first burn, do not worry, it will catch up later on!

When to Refill: Your Pott is ready for a new refill when there is approximately 1/2 inch of solidified wax remaining at the bottom.
Preparing for Refill: Allow the residual wax to cool and fully harden. Once cool, follow the simple instructions provided with your new Pott refill to safely and cleanly replace the refill.
